A peaceful Philadelphia neighborhood suddenly erupting into flames just days before Christmas would have made national headlines, but thanks to a cunning dog with an incredible sense of smell, it’s only making headlines here.
Kobe, Chanell Bell’s 4-year-old husky, sensed a catastrophic gas leak underground. Bell trusted her instincts and paid attention to Kobe’s warnings.
Bell, who had just moved into the house, saw that Kobe spent hours each day digging in the same area of the yard. He’s an avid digger when the occasion calls for it, so she didn’t think much of it at first, but as it grew bigger, she became aware of it.
She remarked, “That isn’t his typical behavior, so I trust his judgment.” “I knew something was wrong; he has excellent senses and never digs holes unless he is assisting me in digging.”
Chanell “trusted her intuition” and pulled out her gas detection device after discovering a gas leak in the house earlier in December and realizing the hole went under the sidewalk.
The reading picked up gas right away.
Not just gas, but gas with cataclysmic potential.
Chanell reported the incident to the authorities, who told her that there might have been fatal consequences if Kobe hadn’t discovered the leak on December 21.
We were informed that it might have resulted in fatalities or major health consequences like brain damage and respiratory problems. “They informed me that even something as basic as flipping on a light switch could have resulted in an explosion,” she exclaimed.
Her gas was promptly cut off by the gas foreman and his team, who then proceeded to fix the old pipes that were leaking in three different locations and might have impacted other homes in the area.
Chanell, who feels that you should always pay attention to your animals and their senses, said, “They were so impressed with Kobe and mentioned what a good dog he was.”
“Kobe saved our block, and I am so grateful to have him,” she continued. “I hope that this raises awareness among others about the severity and dangers of gas leaks, as well as the importance of paying attention to your fur babies!”
