A devoted German Shepherd offers to guard the abandoned young deer

Dogs may be incredibly devoted and protective. They’re always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, whether they be humans or other dogs.

Even more motivating is witnessing them defend a different species. We adore witnessing unusual relationships between other species, such as the one this dog has formed as best friends with an injured deer.

Sarge, a German Shepherd who is nine years old, received a surprise new brother when his owner Cheryl Stephen brought home a fawn that she had discovered abandoned on the road.

Much to Cheryl’s surprise, the dog took immediate care of the beleaguered deer, whom she named Buckwheat.

Cheryl told The Dodo, “Something clicked in Sarge and he took to Buckwheat instantly.” “He desired to be involved with all facets of Buckwheat’s treatment… He assumed the position of protector for Buckwheat.

Sarge was eager to show the deer about as he matured and stood again, and Buckwheat followed him closely, treating him like a big brother.

Sarge kept Buckwheat from straying when we would take him outside, according to Cheryl.

With time, Buckwheat matured. It was becoming too big for the house and to the point where he no longer needed Sarge’s assistance.

At last, he was prepared to go back into the wild.

Although Buckwheat is fully independent, Sarge still has a large number of deer to tend to.

Sarge is always willing to lend a hand, and Cheryl has continued to take in and heal injured and abandoned deer. They show them all the love and attention they can, even though some of the deer do not survive.

Sarge “splashes into action when I walk in the door carrying a fawn,” Cheryl said to The Dodo. “He will frantically sniff and nose around to find out their condition as he wants to check them over.”

The fawns are attracted to Sarge and feel secure around him. Sarge will not abandon them.

I appreciate how well you always look after these young deer when they require assistance, Sarge! It demonstrates the intelligence and compassion of dogs.

Tell this lovely tale!
