Trust between a couple is very important, and people will do anything to make sure they can trust their partner, not just when it comes to cheating, but in general. In this Reddit post, a woman said she felt slighted when she found out that her husband had secretly put up a surveillance camera in their home to show that he didn’t trust her as a wife.
This is what she wrote:
“I (46F) found out about a month ago that my husband (47M) had put a camera in our house without us knowing. So, while I was cleaning, I found a small camera hidden in what looked like a charging block that was plugged into an outlet in the living room. When I told my husband about it, he admitted that he put it there to keep an eye on me. There are a lot of chargers and other things around here for our three kids (16F, 14M, and 12F), so I didn’t think that small device was what it was at first.
She also said:
“It seems like it all began when my 12-year-old needed a permission slip signed and forms filled out in order to go on a class trip. I’ll admit that things came up and we missed the due date. To make sure I could give the forms my full attention, I had written them down to be filled out another day. But it was the beginning of a new month, and that’s when I do most of my shopping and keep track of my bills and subscriptions.
I clean every day, but we hire a service to do deep cleaning and landscaping, and I had to watch them work. In short, my 16-year-old calls my husband after picking up her sister and telling him that she is sad that she can’t go on her trip. My partner makes the trip to the school to beg them to let him fill out the paperwork in the office. They let him because it was the same day, which was lucky. I deeply apologized.”
She went on to explain:
“My husband, who works for himself as an HVAC technician, yelled at me about how he gets so many calls every day but still has to do the paperwork and communicate with customers.” He works hard, but I work hard at home, too, but I do all of my work behind the scenes. My work has a lot of moving parts and emotional work as well. He won’t let go of the idea that I wasn’t as busy and that I should do “easy” things better.
My husband was trying to “prove” with the camera that I’m lazy and not worth much, and that my office skills are not up to the Super Stay-at-Home Mom standards that he, as a “high earner,” deserves. I kicked him out of the house after finding out about the camera. I then went to see a lawyer and filed for divorce because I feel violated and unimportant.
