In an instant, a happy get-together can become a complicated situation. It made Paulina, a young mother, very angry that her mother-in-law chose that gift for her son’s birthday party. She acted quickly because her anger got the best of her. Paulina contacted us to tell us about her bad experience and ask for our help.
This is the letter from Paulina:
“For my son’s 7th birthday party, I spent hours making a surprise cake.” Even though she knew, my MIL showed up to the party with a huge Batman cake that she had ordered. She told my son, “No one can surprise you better than Grandma.” My son was naturally so interested in her fancy cake that he forgot all about mine. I wanted my cake to be a special memory for him, but my MIL mess that up.
I threw her cake away in front of everyone because I was so mad. “You need to go now and say sorry to my mother,” my husband told me. “What you did was extremely rude.” I didn’t want to say sorry because I hadn’t done anything wrong.
After what happened, everyone at the party was quiet. It felt like an awkward get-together. My MIL didn’t feel good and left right before we cut the cake I made.
Do you think I went too far with this?
Thank you,
Paulina”
