We heard Mike’s story, which may hit home for many. He is 36 years old. He said “Hi!” when he opened the letter. I saw that a lot of people were writing to you for help and answers, so I chose to be brave and tell you my story. Next, he talked about what had happened: “I’ve been seeing a woman for more than three years.” I love that she has two kids. I don’t like how we handle money differently, though.
He went on, “She always had money problems, which I don’t mind because I know how hard it is to be a single mom with two kids.” I chose to help her pay for her food. She has always let her kids choose what they want, even when we first started dating. A lot of the time, I saw food going bad in her pantry.”
The next part of Mike’s story is, “Recently, we went to the grocery store and the kids picked out a lot of cookies.” When we got to her house, I saw bug-covered cookies in her pantry. I went crazy. I told her what was going on when the kids went outside to play, but she told me I was overreacting.
He told us about his big plans: “This used to bother me, but now it’s getting worse because I want to ask her and her kids to move in with me.” It’s not okay for this to happen in our house. I was poor as a child, so buying food that you don’t need and then throwing it away is a big red flag for me. What should I do?”
