Being pregnant should be a happy time for a woman. Still, it’s not a secret that disagreements do happen, especially between people who are married to different mothers-in-law. These problems can make this special time less exciting. Not long ago, a pregnant woman was trying to become a mother while having trouble getting along with her mother-in-law. She wrote us a heartfelt letter asking for comfort and advice.
“Hey,
I’m 41 years old and my husband is 29. We got married a year ago. When I got married to my son’s mother, she didn’t like it. I thought it was because I’m older than him and “can’t give” her the grandchildren she always wanted.
However, I am now pregnant, and to my surprise, things got worse. Instead of being happy, my MIL’s mood has become even worse. She constantly crosses the line by giving me advice I don’t want and making hurtful comments that are meant to bring me down.
She said something embarrassing about my changing body at a big family dinner the other day. She looked down her nose at me and said, “Looks like you’re gaining weight faster than expected.” The whole family saw this. I was hurt deeply by her mean words, which made me feel like my pregnancy was just something to make fun of in her eyes.
I’m afraid that my MIL will become even more angry as my pregnancy goes on. I don’t think I’m ready to deal with this situation, so any advice would be very helpful.
Sincerely,
Sue”
