A lot of parents try to treat their kids the same, but inheritance can make things more difficult. This is what happened to Cynthia. Her son wants a bigger share of her inheritance than her daughter does, which makes things hard for her.
It was Chyntia who sent it to us:
“Four years ago, my son and daughter-in-law talked me out of going to a nursing home and got me to move in with them instead.” I also have a daughter, but her house is too small, and she couldn’t help pay my bills.
Since she and my son have been taking care of me and giving me money for years, my DIL now says it’s “unfair” to give the inheritance equally to both of my kids.
My son turned to me and said, “While we were housing you, my sister was asking you for money behind our backs.” Mom, is this how you say thank you?”
I told them that my daughter needs money much more than they do, so I gave her a few hundred dollars a few months ago. But that doesn’t mean I should leave her out of her inheritance and give them all the money instead.
“Then my DIL smiled and said, “It’s not our problem if your daughter can’t make any money.” We deserve more of her share of the inheritance because we’ve spent four years on you.
This terrible event breaks my heart. What should I do?
Thank you, Cynthia”
