My family talked badly about my wife in front of me, and they still believe they were right.

Imagine being with your family when they insult your spouse in front of you. This is someone you grew up with. There is more to this than just a moment of awkwardness. It is a deep cut that tests relationships, loyalty, and personal boundaries.

He talked about what happened.

My wife is 21 years old and I am 22 years old. We’ve been together since we were kids and have been dating since I was 17. The problem is that she had an accident when she was 11 and hasn’t been able to walk since. We’re working on it, but it doesn’t look good at all.

We got married eight months ago, and both sets of families and our friends were there. My family thought I was crazy for getting married so quickly. They are two years apart in age, and my sister is four years older than I am.

They were at my wedding, so I thought they liked her. But a few days ago, we had a family dinner because my oldest sister was finally getting married. We joked around, ate, danced, and other things were going well.

I put my wife to sleep upstairs because she was tired. When I got downstairs, my sister suddenly told me that it would be better if my wife wasn’t at her wedding. When I asked her why, she said, “she wanted me to be beside her and not carry my wife around.” I laughed and thought she was joking, but she was serious.

“What?” I asked. She’s not a bother; I told her she was family. Her answer was that she liked my wife, but I would spend too much time with her because I was busy with my wife. It makes sense for a brother to be with his sister at her wedding.

She doesn’t need to worry about my wife because I just told her I would be with her forever. That’s when my brothers showed up. They told me I’d done “enough” for my wife and it was time for me to help my sister. They said I should have married someone else instead of a “burden.”

I looked at my dad and he just waved me to calm down. But then my mom spoke up and said that my siblings were right—my wife shouldn’t go to the wedding because I would be too busy taking care of her to pay attention to my siblings or the wedding.

It got so bad for me that I lost it. After hearing all of this, I said that if my wife wasn’t invited, then neither was I. When I said I was leaving, my family stopped me on the way upstairs to wake up my wife and leave. They told me I was being unreasonable. That’s why I said I wasn’t feeling well. If I heard another rude word, I was going to do something we would all regret.

I quickly took my wife and left for home. We left because I had important work in the morning and my boss called me at the last minute. She bought it, but my family kept telling me I was wrong for making threats.
