When people knew their lives would never be the same again.

Some events in our lives, especially those that happen to us as children, shape who we are and how we see the world. The stories told here have had a big impact on these people and have stayed with them long after the events happened.

After meeting up with some friends at a nearby coffee shop, I asked my dad to come get me. I said goodbye to my friends and walked out to the car when I saw him pull into the parking lot. As I slid into the seat and opened the back door, I saw a man who wasn’t my dad.
It was like, “I’ll give you anything you want as long as you don’t hurt me or steal my car.” Because I knew I was wrong, I said sorry, jumped out of the car, and ran back into the coffee shop. Not a known author/Reddit

I thought it would be fun to “find” a $100 bill when I was seven years old by taking it off the counter and bringing it to school. The teachers outside told me to give it back to the front desk, even though I wanted to keep it. They told me I could keep it if no one else took it. It turned out that someone did claim it, which made me very sad because I didn’t have any money. Oh, those were the days. From GeneralBlumpkin on Reddit

At the end of eighth grade, my mom died. There is a mother-son mass and breakfast at my high school every year, but I couldn’t go for obvious reasons. The mom of one of my friends asked if she could bring me with her son this year. It was like she was her son. After breakfast, she took me to see where my mom was buried and gave me flowers to put on the grave. It made my whole junior year better to know that someone could be so nice. If I were in elementary school, I would sit in my living room and do my homework while watching Nickelodeon. “Wouldn’t it be weird if I tried to remember this moment for the rest of my life?” I asked myself. That’s what I did. I still remember that moment for no reason, even though it’s been almost 20 years. I was a weird kid. © Reddit user drifterinthadark

When I was younger, my dad got my sister and me 12 Crème Eggs to share for Easter. We had one for Easter and were going to enjoy it more the next day. They were all gone, which made us sad. Dad ate 10 in one night and said they were going to explode, so he had no choice. The disappointment hurt us. From segfaultless on Reddit
