The most unsettling experiences are the ones that don’t make sense. These strange events stick with us, and their enigmatic nature makes us wonder what really happened. Each story in this collection comes from a real person who shared a scary experience online. These experiences still scare the people who shared them.
“Eight days before my daughter was born, my husband died. That time, my son was five years old. I told a friend that my husband never got to meet our daughter when he was 18. When I turned around, my son said, “No, he did.” What he said next sent chills down my spine. He said that for seven years, his dad would visit them at school every day. Then, all of a sudden, he stopped, and they never saw him again. The details my son remembered really made me feel bad. The way the man moved and the red hat he wore were exactly the same as things his dad used to do. My daughter told me exactly the same thing about the man when I asked her. I still get chills thinking about how that man could not have been their dad. He was no longer alive. I still have no idea who that stranger was who came to visit my kids.
In my car on the way to college, I had to cross a bridge. At about five miles away, I saw a black object floating in the sky as I made the turn. It looked like an ellipse and was a dark gray color. When I turned around, the object went behind a house and then came back out when I passed it. That’s how I knew it wasn’t something in my car. I wasn’t able to look into it because I was late for class, but when I went back to the same spot three hours later, it was gone. After a few years, a huge hole about 300 feet wide appeared in that spot and took a street with it. Still, it makes me wonder if there’s a link. HANDS-DOWN / Reddit
That’s where I grew up. My great-grandmother built it and is where she died. Even though I don’t really believe in ghosts, this one made us all scratch our heads. My mom lost her wedding ring for no reason when I was about eight years old. She wasn’t sure if she took it off or not, but it was gone. I remember that she and I looked for it for months. She gave up after a while and thought it was gone for good. I talked about the lost ring again a year later and joked, “What if great-grandma took it?” “You’d better give it back,” my mom said half-jokingly as she looked up at the sky. My dad gets home from work after about an hour and says, “Look what I found in the driveway!” There it is—a wedding ring. Alxorange on Reddit
