Truth can be scarier than fiction sometimes. We’ve put together this collection of really scary and troubling true stories that will keep your mind busy and give you chills all over.
1. I woke up at 4 a.m. to the sound of music on my baby monitor. It said over and over, “Shut up, baby. I came for you.” We were by ourselves. When I went to my baby’s room, she was already asleep. I told myself it was just a bad dream to calm down. But as I moved her blanket around, I saw something behind her arm. A note that said, “Make sure to take care of your child more!” made my blood run cold. I was choked up and frozen with the note in my hand.
After a few hours, I fell asleep there. The note was gone when I woke up. I looked everywhere, but it was nowhere to be found. I’m still not sure if it was all a bad dream or not because it all felt so real.
2. When I was seventeen, some friends of mine wanted to do a ghost hunt at one of their homes. There was a girl who lived there with her sisters, and they always talked about scary ghost stories. I didn’t believe it, but I had nothing else to do. I was sitting in a chair next to a closed door for about 4–5 hours. The door opened half way, then all the way, and then slammed shut after the lock was turned. Then I heard steps next to the chair. Now I’m not so sure about everything. jado9814 on Reddit
3. When I was fourteen, I spent the summer with my grandparents. It was 11 p.m., and I was thirsty. When I go into the kitchen, I see what I think is my grandfather eating a sandwich at the table. I say hello, get a drink, and then go back to my room. After I talk to someone, my grandpa comes out of his room and asks who I was. When I turned around, no one was there. It scared me, and it still does. From Lucanthethird on Reddit
4. When my son was young, I was working on the computer when I heard him waking up. He made a tiny whimper sound and a cry or moan that sounds like a toddler’s: “Mommyyyyy.” I jumped up to get him. It dawned on me that my son wasn’t home. He had stayed the night with my parents. Credit: Cellophaneflours on Reddit
5. While playing paintball in the woods of North Carolina, I got lost. It was bright outside, but the trees were so thick that they all looked the same. Even though it was probably only one or two minutes, I felt like I was screaming “help” for hours. The worst part? I wasn’t even lost, it turned out. People around me were only about 10 feet away, but they all heard me yelling “help!” They thought I was just a liar… © Reddit user reincarN8ed
6. The table with my mom, all of my brothers and sisters, and I had been there for about two months after my dad died. We were just telling stories and talking about the past. As we talked about my dad, all of a sudden, the globe that was around the ceiling light dropped straight to the middle of the table. After hitting the table, it didn’t break, roll, or move at all. unknown author/Reddit
7. In the two and a half years we’ve lived here, little things have happened. Sounds like knocking coming from the front of the house and the hallway leading to the kids’ rooms most of the time. Late one night, though, I heard steps going from my wife’s side of the bed to the other side of the room and then stopping. The footsteps had gone to my wife’s phone in the morning. There was no clear reason for her putting it there, and I didn’t say anything. From cartmancakes on Reddit
8. We were living in an apartment the night my older brother died. The neighbor across the hall has a vicious Rottweiler that is always getting into trouble. Between 3 and 3 a.m., there were three separate knocks on the door, and the Rottweiler squealed in fear. When we opened the door, there was no one there.
My aunt came home the next day and cried because she was sad. “I thought someone knocked on my door at 3 a.m.; I thought it was your brother, but there was no one there,” she said. @ caprismart1978 / Reddit
