6 Truths that Shocked People and made them rethink everything

1. My mom always put a blanket over me when I was little. Near the corner, there was a small, uneven spot that didn’t fit the rest. She would smile and say, “That’s a special part of the quilt” every time I asked her about it. When I was going through her things last year after she died, I was shocked to find a picture of my dad and my mom when she was pregnant with me. The design on my dad’s shirt was exactly the same as the patchy area on my blanket. My dad died soon after I was born, so I don’t remember him. I also never knew the whole story behind why my dad’s shirt is on my blanket. At that very moment, though, I cried so hard, and it still makes me miss my parents so much.

2. My sister and I used to pull jokes on his secretary. He finally told us that he had been seeing her when we were older. My skin crawls when I think about how he used my little sister to flirt with this woman behind our mother’s back. Not a known author/Reddit

3. When I was a kid, I always said that the mashed potatoes my grandmother made were better than the ones my mom made. My grandmother once told me it was because she used a special recipe. Last year, I learned that my mom mashes her potatoes by hand. My grandmother only uses the quick stuff that comes in a box. I was meant to get her “special recipe” for instant mashed potatoes. 4. I found out my dad wasn’t really my dad. I was only a few months old when he came into my life and raised me. They told me (when I was 5) that my last name had been switched with another student’s when I started school and saw that it wasn’t the same as his. When I was in middle school, I asked for the truth and thought about it again. It was a little traumatic, but I handled it well. From OnTheCouchBored on Reddit

5. I had a friend named “Maria” in third grade, and we always hung out together. A book fair day, I asked my mom for money and bought a pen that doesn’t show up. (The ones where your writing is hidden until you shine a light on it.) Maria asked one day if she could stay the night, and I said yes. I gave it to her and asked for it back the next day, but she said she had lost it. I asked her again after two months if she still had it, but she said she “lost” it. I thought it was strange, but I didn’t say anything else. When I was 12 or 13, I remembered it and realized she had taken it from me. From BrandoWhiskers on Reddit

6. I had a small turtle as a pet when I was six years old. When I went to feed it one day, I found a rock instead. Turtles can turn into rocks and stay with their owners forever, my mom told me. That rock was mine for five years, and one day as I looked at it, I suddenly understood why the turtle had turned into a rock. It broke, so my mom got a new one. From feeddahippo on Reddit
