My FIL can only live with us if he follows my rules.

This woman recently told the internet about how things are getting worse between her, her husband, and her mother-in-law. Given that her FIL wants to move in with them, she finds herself setting strict rules.

Here’s her story:

I’m in a situation with my FIL. My husband and I have two kids (under 5), and we live in a nice house. Lately, my FIL, who is retired and lives alone, has been hinting that he wants to move in with us.
I told my husband that I’m not entirely against him moving in, but only if he agrees to some conditions. The conditions are: if he’s going to live with us, he needs to contribute, right? So I said he should cook most of the meals during the week and take care of cleaning on the weekends. This would make things feel more balanced and help me out a lot, since I already juggle a full-time job and the kids. Plus, it would make me feel like he’s not just moving in to relax or “supervise.”
Now, we’re at an impasse. My husband barely speaks to me, and I can feel the tension between us. He thinks I’m being selfish, but I just don’t see why I should have to take on more work if he moves in.
At this point, I don’t know what to do. I feel like I’ve been reasonable, but clearly, my husband and FIL don’t see it that way. I’m starting to wonder if I should have just said no from the beginning, but I wanted to compromise. Now, I’m worried this whole situation could drive a wedge between me and my husband.
