It can be hard to stay married when someone else starts to get involved in your private life. For Frannie, her mother-in-law is that third party. Frannie, who is only 24, turned down her mother-in-law’s kind offer to buy them a house because she thought it would give her more power over their lives. Recently, an amazing thing happened in their house that made Frannie even more worried. This is her story.
We are 24 and recently got married. My MIL wants to buy us an apartment, but I don’t want her help. My husband says, “Stop with this nasty attitude, and be grateful to her!”
Yesterday, I came home early, and she was there. My husband turned pale when he saw me.
I went to our room and froze when I found the interior completely altered:
1. She’d replaced our bedsheets with the ugly ones she gave us for our wedding.
2. She’d gotten rid of the mirror my grandmother gifted me (claiming it didn’t match the decor)
3. She’d even thrown away most of my makeup and bath products because she didn’t like the ingredients (she’s obsessed with environmental and animal causes).
She’s a control freak, and all of this was just her way of showing she’s still in charge of her son’s life. I was so furious, I left the house without saying a word.
I know the real reason she wants us to buy a house is so she can control us even
more.
The worst part is, my husband doesn’t know how to stand up for me and can’t even see that his mom is ruining our relationship.
What should I do?
Frannie
