Poor souls who had to learn the hard way

The problems of lying and betrayal we face in life shape us, and even if it’s hard to see at first, they often make us stronger and smarter. The people in this piece were betrayed shockingly, either by people they trusted or by strange events. Instead of being scared, they kept going and bravely shared what they had been through on the internet.

1. A neighbor called me at 3 a.m. “Wake up!” he yelled. There’s a guy in your yard!” I was scared and ran to the back, but there was no one there. My dad’s Rolex was gone the next day. Because we were scared, my neighbor and I put security cameras in our homes. After several months, the police came to see me. When they told me they found my Rolex at my neighbor’s house, my blood ran cold. A few blocks away, his son was caught stealing from someone else’s house. The father and son were both involved in the crime. Dad called me, which took my attention away from the fact that his son had already broken in, taken the watch from my room, and left without me noticing. I was shocked. I could never trust anyone again after that, even though I had known this neighbor for over 25 years and thought of him as a friend.

2. My wife thought that a stranger on Facebook could use Bitcoin to turn $100 into $1,000. To do it, they only needed money from our bank. She sent them the money, but it was gone in an instant. From mrgoodnight2 on Reddit

3. I married for love, but he did it for a ticket. It was hard because we had three kids together while he was waiting for his passport and to become a citizen. He then began to gaslight me. He almost got away with it, but I knew what he was planning. I ended up running away with my kids. From VeeBeeEll on Reddit

4. A man told me he was a boss at a business in a different city, but he had lost his wallet and phone. He asked me for $50. I still can’t believe I gave it to him that day. It was even stranger when I went to a woman selling balloons to get change and she looked like she knew something was wrong and didn’t want to give me money. But I wasn’t aware that she was really there to help me. From Reddit user ElsaJones315

5. The videographer we hired for our wedding was a good deal—not great, but not too bad either. They were based in Las Vegas and hired local videographers to do their work. A website said they were “certified lovely,” and we would find out more about our videographer two weeks before the wedding. We also saved money because we paid $874 all at once. After two weeks, nothing has happened. One week, I email several times and try to call, but nothing. Then I check Yelp to see what I can find. There are a lot of reviews from people who said no one showed up.
Luckily, we were able to dispute the charge with our credit card company. Our wonderful wedding planner also helped us find a videographer at the last minute. (NiftyQt816 on Reddit)

6. I got a message that said it was from my postal service and that my package wasn’t getting sent out. They wanted me to pay a small fee and enter my information again. It wasn’t my mail service; it was a random number from the UK. I called them, gave them my address, and clicked on their link. *d**bwithacapitalD / Reddit
