Retired NYPD Detective Daniel Sprague was confronted by a woman during his birthday celebration, and she struck him in the face because she did not like his red “Make Fifty Great Again” hat.
Sprague wore the hat he received as a birthday present from his wife, which he wore with a shirt that read “Making America Great Since 1970” and featured the American flag.
When the woman approached Sprague and punched him, he was at The Stage on Broadway.
“I was outside with my friends when somebody punched me in the face, spun me around, and grabbed me from behind,” he stated. Before I got hit, I assumed it was a friend. It was unbelievable to me that someone could become so irate.
The woman and Sprague were ejected from the property, according to the New York Post, and Sprague was unable to contact the police.
A report was then submitted by him to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
The suspect struck him in the face after snatching his hat off of his head. He said that he did not strike her back after the suspect struck him in the face, according to the article.
He expressed disbelief at the attack and said he had heard a few reactions during the evening, but nothing hostile or violent.
“Everyone gave me the thumbs up, grins, or even angry looks all night long, until they got up close and noticed what the hat stated. They would then say, “Happy birthday to me,” he recalled.
“I love Trump, but I wouldn’t hit someone who was wearing a Bernie hat,” he continued. Everybody is free to express their opinions. Obama wasn’t my favorite, but I would still treat him and the office with respect if they came into my presence.
Later, he posted a story about the incident on Facebook, along with images of his bleeding face. He said he was waiting on word from the cops in Nashville.
