The Inside of Elvis Presley’s 1962 Private Jet Is Up for Auction.

Elvis Presley’s iconic 1962 Lockheed 1329 JetStar, a symbol of his larger-than-life persona, is set to hit the auction block in January. This one-of-a-kind aircraft, once a centerpiece of the King of Rock and Roll’s busy touring life, offers fans a unique chance to own a piece of musical history.

The JetStar, which Elvis purchased in 1976 for $840,000, is equipped with luxurious features that reflect his signature style. Inside, the jet boasts red velvet swivel chairs, a matching couch, wood paneling from the 1970s, and an entertainment cabinet complete with a TV, VCR, cassette player, and headphone ports. A microwave, drink dispenser, and a preserved toilet and vanity round out its retro charm.

After Presley’s untimely death in 1977, the jet was sold and eventually made its way to an aircraft graveyard in Roswell, New Mexico, where it has remained for decades. It last changed hands at an auction in 2017, selling for approximately $430,000. Now, the plane is back on the market, offering enthusiasts and collectors a rare chance to restore this aviation treasure.

Mecum Auctions, overseeing the sale, emphasizes the plane’s remarkable historical value. The listing notes that during Elvis’s intense touring schedule, jets like this one were crucial for shuttling him, his TCB band, backup singers, manager Col. Tom Parker, and the Memphis Mafia to events and concerts across the country. Demonstrating his commitment to his fans, Elvis maintained a team of pilots on standby, ready to take him wherever he was needed at a moment’s notice.

The jet is in need of significant restoration. It currently lacks an engine, and many cockpit components are missing. However, the Mecum Auctions listing calls it an “incredible restoration opportunity” with potential to be transformed into a one-of-a-kind Elvis exhibit.

In addition to the plane itself, the new owner will receive copies of Aircraft Security Agreement documents signed by Presley. This added touch of authenticity makes the purchase even more special for die-hard Elvis fans.

Elvis’s love for aviation was no secret. Elvis Presley’s fleet of private planes included a custom Convair 880, affectionately named “Lisa Marie” in honor of his daughter, as well as an additional JetStar. These planes were famously dubbed “Hound Dog 1” and “Hound Dog 2,” a nod to one of his most beloved songs.

The Mecum listing emphasizes Presley’s unmatched impact on music history, stating, “This jet offers a rare opportunity to honor and celebrate Elvis’s remarkable legacy.”

For those who adore the King of Rock and Roll, this upcoming auction represents more than just a sale—it’s an opportunity to preserve and honor the spirit of an American icon.
