During a hearing on Thursday, Judge Aileen Cannon delivered a scathing critique of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s indictment against former President Donald Trump. This morning’s hearing in a South Florida courtroom was another chapter in the ongoing tale of Trump’s case involving classified documents.
Special Counsel Jack Smith is leading the case against Trump, which alleges the former president mishandled classified documents. This accusation has gained attention in light of information that has surfaced about President Joe Biden’s handling of comparable materials. In a significant turn of events, Cannon explicitly mentioned the purported unfairness of the two cases’ respective applications of justice, notably bringing up Robert Hur’s damning report on Biden. The case involving the classified documents is in jeopardy because anything could happen during the day in court.
Even though there may be some technical illegalities in both cases, Donald Trump’s case is less severe than Joe Biden’s because he stored the documents at Mar-a-Lago, his approved presidential retreat away from the White House, while still in office and is further shielded by the Presidential Records Act.
Therefore, in the event that the Trump case is found “guilty,” it will be viewed as a case of “selective and vindictive prosecution” and will be the most obvious instance of election interference in American history.
Thus, a guilty verdict for Trump would be a political result that goes against the wishes of American voters. It would be the real “attack on democracy” that the Democratic Party is feigned to be opposing, meddling in US elections and undermining fundamental institutions like the rule of law.
It would be a great triumph for “democracy” if Judge Cannon dismissed the Trump classified documents case with prejudice.
