Taylor’s wedding day had a sad moment that took away from the happiness of the event. Emily, her sister-in-law, gave her a present that made her look bad, which made Taylor feel bad and embarrassed. Now, she is trying to fix her relationship with Emily, which is strained because of what happened at the wedding.
“It was my wedding day, and I was nervous and excited like every bride is on her big day.” Emily, my sister-in-law, gave me a small gift wrapped in bright paper as I stood there ready to say my vows.
When I opened it, I smiled because I thought it would be cute or funny. But on the inside was an apron with the words “Marriage Survival Kit: Cook, Clean, and Smile!” and a bunny or two. The people in the room laughed lightly, but I could feel my cheeks turning red from shame.
I tried to laugh it off, but it hurt me inside. I told them I had to leave, saying something about needing a moment. I tried to calm down by taking a deep breath in the bathroom.
My husband followed me because he was scared. “It’s just Emily being Emily,” he told me as he hugged me. “Don’t worry about it.”
It did bother me, though. She thought it was funny to give me that gift on my wedding day, even though I had worked so hard to make sure everything was perfect.
Since then, Emily and I haven’t been getting along very well. On what was supposed to be the best day of my life, I can’t forget how it felt to be laughed at. Our friendship has a small crack that I don’t know how to fix.
Thanks,
Taylor”
