After being together for two years, Nora just moved in with her boyfriend. Before they recently had a fight, their relationship was good and there weren’t any big problems.
The boyfriend of Nora wouldn’t buy her pads.
I was surprised when my period came early, which caught me off guard. As soon as I realized I was out of pads, I knew I couldn’t go out and buy some because I bleed so much. Since it was late, I asked my boyfriend to quickly go to the drugstore and get some pads for me. To my surprise, he said no right away.
A few days ago, she had her period early without planning to, and she didn’t have any sanitary pads with her. She couldn’t go outside to buy them herself because she would have bled through her pants. She asked her boyfriend for help since it was late at night.
He was asked by Nora to go to the drugstore and buy pads for her. To her surprise, he said no right away, without any thought.
He said no because he felt unsafe.
He refused to help her, which shocked her. “I asked him why he wouldn’t help me,” she said. He told her that he didn’t like the thought of the cashier seeing him buy pads. She laughed and thought he must be joking because she found this funny.
But he was serious, and his response was angry. She tried to make him feel better by telling him that the cashier would probably know the pads weren’t for him and wouldn’t care about what he bought. He was still adamant in his refusal, though.
He was hurt by it.
She told him to use the self-checkout to avoid being embarrassed, but he turned down that idea too. His worry was that someone would see him with the pads and think he was transgender for the wrong reason.
She called him childish and said he had weak masculinity because of his response, even though it was just an act of support for his girlfriend. He stormed out of the house because of what she said.
Nora doesn’t know if what she did was right or wrong.
She had to make do because she had no other choice. She wore black pants and a long cardigan and used toilet paper as a pad until she could buy pads. Her boyfriend has been ignoring her since this happened. As she thought about what had happened, she began to question whether her response had been too harsh.
Right now, she wants to know if she was wrong to criticize her boyfriend for not being masculine when he refused to buy her pads because he doesn’t answer her texts.
No one wants to be judged, but Nora needs your help to figure out if partners should be okay with seeing or buying sanitary pads.
