I Objected at My Mom’s Wedding and Brought the Day to a Screeching Halt.

Have you ever thought about what would happen if someone really did object at a wedding, like in the movies? One of our readers did it, and it was at the wedding of her own mother. That day will be one she’ll never forget, but for the wrong reasons.

Before you start reading this story about a sad family, you should know that some movie scenes are better left on the big screen. One daughter messed up her mom’s big day and had to learn the hard way how things work in real life.

“My mom (52F), a successful lawyer, and I (26F) have never had an easy relationship.” She’s been married six times, and each one ended because she cheated on her husband. I was shocked and worried when she told me she was getting married to Tom (58M), a rich businessman she had only been dating for two months. When I tried to tell her about my worries, she ignored me and said that this time would be different. I agreed to be her maid of honor even though I had doubts. I hoped that I could help her while also keeping an eye on things.

As I stood at the altar on the day of the wedding, I had a feeling that something wasn’t right. I had a strong feeling that my mom was making a big mistake, and I was becoming more and more sure that I needed to stop the wedding. My mom looked beautiful in her designer dress, but I saw that she kept looking at her phone nervously.

As the ceremony began, the officiant asked if anyone had any objections. That’s when I stood up. I couldn’t stop the words from coming out.

“I object!” My voice was shaking as I spoke. The guests let out gasps, and my mom’s face turned pale.

“Sweetie, what are you doing?” She hissed and got angry, making her eyes narrow.

I took a big breath. “Mom, I can’t let you do that. Tom doesn’t know who you are. He doesn’t know that you’ve cheated on every guy you’ve been with in the past. It’s not fair to him.”

Tom looked shocked. “Is this true, Margaret?”

My mom got a red face. She snapped, “Of course not!” I think my daughter is being over the top. She has always been envious of the relationships I have.

But a woman in the back of the church stood up before she could go on. Lisa (45F), an old friend of my mom’s, answered. “She’s telling the truth!” Lisa cried. “Margaret, you can’t run away from your past. You need to tell Tom and yourself the truth. It’s time to stop cheating like this.

The room went quiet. Mom glared at Lisa and then at me. She yelled, “You two are both lying!” No one has ever caught me cheating on them! You’re making my wedding day terrible!”

She grabbed Tom’s arm and looked at him. “Don’t pay attention to them, Tom.” They’re only out to ruin our happiness.”

Tom looked unsure, and his eyes kept going back and forth between my mom and me. “I-I don’t know what to believe,” he said in a low voice.

Mom’s angry face looked like a mess. To break the glass against the wall, she grabbed it from a nearby table and threw it across the room. Guests screamed in shock.

She screamed, “This wedding is over!” “I’m not going to stand here and let my own daughter insult me!” “Everyone, leave!”

I tried to get close to her in the chaos. “Mom, please, I’m just trying to help you…”

She yelled, “Help me!” “You messed up everything!” I don’t want to see you ever again!” She stormed out of the church, leaving Tom speechless and the room full of people whispering.

My heart broke when I was left standing at the altar. I did what I thought was right, but now I’m not sure about anything. I’ve made my mom look bad in front of everyone, and our relationship is over.

So, was I wrong to object at my mom’s wedding and say in public that she was cheating on me? Perhaps I lost her for good when I tried to keep her from getting divorced again. I’m so sad, and I’m not sure if what I did was right. Please, I need your point of view.

Sincerely,
Martha”
