When one partner thinks they are entitled to a certain amount of money, it can cause problems in a relationship. This is what Becky thought because she thought the money her father left her should be hers to spend, not on her family. Her husband told her that he didn’t agree and that he’s been there for her for years. In a shocking turn of events, he did something that broke Becky’s heart and made her want to get help.
Here is the letter from Becky:
I’ve been a housewife, taking care of my 2 stepkids while my husband provided for us. Recently, my dad left me a $40k inheritance, and my husband said it would help with the family expenses. I told him, “My dad left this money for me, to spend on myself!”
He nodded. Next day, I was horrified to find that my closet was empty of my favorite clothes.
Most of my bags and shoes were gone. I went to the living room, where my husband was, and saw my things packed in boxes. He said, “I thought marriage was about supporting each other, but clearly, you don’t believe in that!” Then, with a smirk, he added, “Now that you have your dad’s money, maybe you can spend it on buying your own stuff.” I couldn’t believe my eyes! It’s been a few days, and my husband and I have completely stopped talking to each other.
Was I wrong for what I said?
