When we marry, our in-laws become part of the family, and we often want to be close and loving with them. It’s too bad that’s not always the case. This collection has some shocking and even strange stories about mothers-in-law. The situations are so unbelievable that you’d think they were made up for TV. But believe it or not, all of these things really happened.
1. My husband and I had been saving up to go on a trip. We had to put it off because his mom was crying about how much debt she had. After a few days, she showed me this big porcelain cat. He said, “Must have cost a fortune.” “Well, my son told me that he didn’t really want to go on that trip!” she said as she tapped me on the shoulder.
I had nothing to say. Later that night, I talked to my husband about it. He stopped moving in shock and swore that he was just as excited about the trip as I was. He also said that his mom often lies about him and speaks for him.
After that day, I learned to stay away from her because the lies she told could hurt my relationship.
2. Before we could even tell some close family members, my mother-in-law put the picture we were going to use for the pregnancy cards on Facebook. She told everyone on Facebook what the baby’s gender was after we told her not to do that again. Thanks to kickslacedandready on Reddit
3. The parents of my boyfriend helped us move into our new home. She put all of his things (clothes, books, etc.) in one bedroom and all of mine in another. After that, she asked us why we had only brought one bed in the truck and if we had ordered another one for him. No one was brave enough to tell her. Not a known author/Reddit
4. My ex-MIL had a temper tantrum right before my wedding because I forgot to bring the crystal cake topper she had bought. Thoughts? “That mean girl did that ON PURPOSE to make me look bad!” was the line that stood out the most when people were shocked by her actions. This is just one of many sad stories about that awful woman. From clydiebaby on Reddit
5. As soon as we told my mother-in-law I was pregnant, she got stomach pains and hasn’t been able to eat anything since. Her stomach pains are still bad after three years, and she always says she can’t eat anything. By the way, she hasn’t lost any weight.
Luckily, we don’t live too close together for this to be talked about very often, but I can’t handle the drama. From lumos_noxa on Reddit
6. My husband’s mom was told she couldn’t speak at our reception. But when I wasn’t looking, she sneaked up on the live singer, grabbed the mic, and sobbed for five minutes about “losing her son.” Random Tyme on Reddit
7. About 10–11 years ago, my MIL asked me, “Why would you get a tattoo?” as we were driving somewhere with my in-laws. “That’s so unprofessional,” she said. “Because I like it,” I said, trying not to be hostile and just get along. “That’s not an adult answer!” she said. That’s a really stupid answer!” I finally had enough and asked, “You want an adult answer? OK, I’m an adult, and I don’t need to clear anything with anyone, not even you. Are you happy now?” I hadn’t heard from her in a few days. Nathanaz on Reddit
8. My mother-in-law planned a ceremony for the naming of my first child with 150 people, but I and my family were not there. Even though we live very far apart, I could have made it in just one week. Thanks to AbbreviationsFun8614 on Reddit
