A popular Instagram feed featured a story about perseverance and hard work, which helped a food delivery cyclist who suffered from a foot injury raise over $2,000 for him.
Joshua Cavallero, who operates the BikingDC Instagram page, is a bicycle courier. One day, he noticed Kevin, who was also delivering something on a bike—in this case, Indian food.
Joshua, however, broke off their conversation when he noticed Kevin dismounting the bike directly onto a walker with a cast on his foot. He followed Kevin as he entered with the walker, took the food, and placed it in his delivery backpack. Then he left and tried to get back on the bike, securing his walker to the handlebars with the bike lock.
By then, Kevin claimed to have been doing it for two weeks, and he warned that it was risky to steer when the walker interfered with his ability to control the handlebars.
“What are you doing, bro?” Are you for real? Joshua can be heard saying, “I got bills to pay, bruh,” to which Kevin replies.
Joshua asked Kevin for his Cash app details during their brief but cheerful video exchange so he could give him a small tip. After going viral, the video received 5 million views on Instagram and more.
According to The Washington Post’s report on the incident, Kevin was hospitalized for two weeks after being struck by a car in September. By the time he met Joshua, his rent was past due, and the next day he had plans to ask his neighbor for a loan. Then he checked the $2,400 that was in his Cash app account.
Cavallero had shared the video of their meeting along with his Cash App details, and by the time Kevin had finished reading through the hundreds of encouraging comments, tips were still coming in.
“It used to be my dream to be the person who gets caught in a giveback video, where someone comes up to me and says, ‘Hey, $1,000!'” Joshua stated to the Post.
“I had no money at all. I desired a blessing from someone. Nonetheless, it’s incredible to be able to bless others. I’m the one who can now use my platform to help someone get back on their feet by putting their Cash App out there and telling a genuine story.H
They recently had lunch together once more. Although Kevin had installed a rack on his bike to secure the walker, he still owned the walker. Kevin insisted on paying, and eventually he was able to do so despite Joshua posting his Cash app details once more for precaution.
